We are not left without 360 Design Budapest this year either – In October, the Red Dot award winner design exhibition opens its gates again
Between the 4th and 10th of October, the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency organises the 360 Design Budapest exhibition again, which ended with an outstanding success last year and received five international awards, including the Red Dot award, acknowledged as the highest standard of design. 28 Hungarian, among which six talented entrants and ten regional design brands are presenting their design objects to the wide audience, owing to which they are gaining extensive international visibility. This year, the event awaits those interested in the world of design with a new, contemporary approach, exciting educational roundtable discussions, and exclusive tour guides in Bálna Budapest.
The second 360 Design Budapest aims to make Hungarian and regional product designers more widely known, help domestic design brands enter the international market, and present new, innovative, sustainable directions for the design-conscious target audience. Besides this, the event draws attention to the everyday role of design surrounding us in 360 degrees and owing to the exhibition, Hungary can again get closer to the position of the regional design centre. The HFDA, in collaboration with various Hungarian and international design events and organisations – Art Market Budapest, Budapest Design Week, LuCreate Design Development Foundation –, aims to create a programme that is an outstanding touristic attraction in Europe and exhibits Central Europe’s design industry’s cultural diversity in different dimensions.
The exhibition held between the 4th and 10th of October opens its gates with new visions and some undeniable total art endeavours to present Hungarian design’s artworks. This year’s exhibition finds its way back to nature and focuses on environmentalism and recycling. The installation elements will mainly be made of recycled materials, or the components themselves will be reused later. In the event’s framework, the HFDA Academy: design DIALOG’s educational roundtable discussions consisting of more parts will be held with the participation of Hungarian and regional experts. Through the talks, those interested in the design industry can gain up-to-date information on topics not yet discussed or approached in unconventional manners. Among the topics, you can find Design Material Library – the tangible innovation, the Exceptional design personalities of the V4, and the Then and now – product design from a generational perspective.
Again, product designers are in the centre at 360 Design Budapest, who fill the exhibition with innovative, sustainable, and unique new creations and represent the design industry’s diversity. Designers could apply to the 2021 exhibition in three categories. Besides innovative design enterprises with a progressive approach, emerging product designer’s first products will also be exhibited for the first time this year. In addition, besides Hungarian creators, talents from the V4 countries also debut in the exhibition.
The event shows the works of the profession’s outstanding actors in four thematic exhibition areas: erectors/manufactures, developers/designers, environment and material conscious design, and limited series handicrafts products, which can be regarded quasi as objects of art. Like last year, there will be the possibility in 2021 to explore the exhibition’s details and background with 360 Design Budapest’s curator, Gáspár Bonta, during the guided tours. Furthermore, as a speciality of this year’s exhibition, visitors can sign up for exclusive guided tours held by noted professionals such as Iván András Bojár, art historian; Zita Kraszkó, editor-in-chief of Femcafe; József Martinkó, editor-in-chief of Octogon; Zsolna Ugron, author; and Iván Vitáris, musician.
This autumn, the Agency organised a thematic event series thanks to which fashion and design industry programmes are put in the foreground. Maison&Objet, the design fair in Paris, was held in September, where numerous Hungarian product designers presented their creations; then, the audience had the chance to meet Hungarian fashion designers’ collections on the Milano Fashion Week’s runways. On the domestic scene, after the 360 Design Budapest exhibition, the Budapest Central European Fashion Week will start soon, and at the beginning of December, the Budapest Fashion & Tech Summit fashion industry conference will take place.
