Vivoid - Europa Design Kft.

Vivoid creates acoustic wall coverings, tapestries, wall panels and design elements using modular textile structures that reduce the noise level in interiors and damp echoes. The products can be adapted to individual needs, customised, and fitted to the parameters of any space, and, in addition to their aesthetic value, they improve the acoustic experience of interior spaces.

Why did you choose Europa Design Kft. for your internship during the design START programme?

Europa Design is a distributor and interior design agency, which focuses especially on office furniture and room acoustics. I picked them because Vivoid’s final directions are not yet defined, and I was looking for a determining Hungarian market player who is situated between the designer and the customer, before starting serious product development. Throughout the two weeks, we talked about many important topics, we started a serious market analysis together, and I had the chance to meet new raw materials and technologies which I would never have thought of myself.

Did you get the answers, knowledge, and information you were seeking during the two-week internship?

Yes, and even more than what I expected. The time spent at Europa Design even helped me in asking the right questions, as I have not necessarily had all my questions formulated relating to every area of this subject, so the company’s guidance and raising problems were an important part of the process. Since this is a very diversified area, we tried to study it from every possible angle.

I feel like there is more to my product than simple aestheticisation. I would like to communicate the function clearly by widening the product palette, and design, for instance, wall panels beside tapestries. A broader product scale would put my objects in a clear context and make the concept more easily understandable.

What will you be able to use in your own work, and in running your business from what you have learnt?

Everything that came up gave me useful and usable knowledge. We took a targeted approach to the collaboration; for example, it was crucial for me to get to know the market, to have an overall understanding of the products, companies, and how actors approach this topic. It was an interesting experience to hold such products in my hand that I had not known earlier as the stages of a manufacturing process are clearly visible on a product, that a photo cannot transmit because small details can easily get lost in it. One of the biggest lessons I have learnt during our time together was that we must not be afraid of using simple solutions.  The surfaces and textiles of my design are rather complex, which can be combined well with simple solutions during use, in a fixing, for example.

Will you continue to cooperate in some form, did you think about a future joint product or collaboration?

We will keep in touch for consultation in the future. I hope that in the future my products will also get to a point where I can work with Europa Design as a distributor partner. Since they distribute products of Hungarian designers as well, there is openness on their part.
