The multi-award-winning 360 Design Budapest is back again in October
The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency organises the Red Dot award winner exhibition for the third time between the 3rd and the 9th of October to bring the world of design closer to those interested, through domestic and regional product designers’ works.
This time, the event series held in Bálna Budapest will focus on storytelling, education, and digitalisation, connecting the past and the future and the virtual and physical worlds. The event awaits visitors with exclusive guided tours, a “Meet the Designer” programme point, roundtable discussions, and programmes organised jointly with Art Market Budapest.
The 360 Design Budapest to be realised in the autumn of 2022 still aims to increase the recognition of Hungarian and regional product designers, facilitate domestic design brands to enter the international market, incentivise sales, and strengthen the role of Hungary as a regional design industry centre. The event calls our attention to the everyday role of design surrounding us using contemporary artists’ creations. The exhibition held in the virtual and the physical space at the same time will be realised in close collaboration with Art Market Budapest, one of the leading international contemporary fine arts fairs. One of the most important elements of the partnership this year is the professional meeting called Inside Art & Design, which is a dedicated day for connecting art and design. The programme featuring renowned international speakers, presentations by world-famous experts, roundtable discussions and guided tours will present possibilities of interoperability and connection between applied arts and design.
This year, professionals could apply in three categories to the exhibition: Hungarian product designers, emerging talents, and 3D designers. The latter category, to which creators could apply their own production plan or product concept, is a novelty in the exhibition’s history, the designed pieces will only be presented digitally in the exhibition space. Based on the professional jury’s decision, all in all, 31 Hungariandesign brands participate in the event this year, out of which 14, including 7 designers, were included in the exhibition selection through the design LAB mentoring programme. Besides the 14 emerging talents, numerous other brands will debut in the 3D design category in the unconventional virtual section. In line with strategic goals, this year, over 10 exceptional regional designers will join the event, strengthening international professional relations. It will be worth visiting the physical exhibition space as well since the “Meet the Designer” programme will enable those interested in meeting the artists in person.
In 2022, 360 Design Budapest wishes to provide an experience through the programmes and creations appearing at the exhibition that connects the past and the future and the real and virtual worlds at the same time, so a dedicated section of the exhibition space will be displayed in the virtual space. In addition, the design history section will have its own exhibition space in collaboration with the Museum of Applied Arts, where visitors can learn about the most important milestones of Hungarian design.. Thus, applied art heritage and innovative pieces will let the audience become familiar with the whole spectrum of domestic and regional design at the exhibition on the axis of past, present, and future.
The event boasts exciting professional programmes this year as well: besides the HFDA Academy roundtable discussions, Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow, the leading designer duo of the Italian furniture manufacturer, Baxter, known for their original and unconventional reuse of vintage pieces, will visit Budapest for an individual presentation. It is a great honour for 360 Design Budapest that Piero Lissoni, one of the world’s best-known architects and designers will hold a keynote speech during the event series as a special guest. In addition, visitors can participate in exclusive guided tours again, where Dr Judit Horváth, Head of the Contemporary Design Department of the Museum of Applied Arts, Iván Vitáris, the lead singer of Ivan & The Parazol band, and Judit Osvárt, editor-in-chief of ELLE Decoration will present the exhibition from their own perspectives.
