The first day of the BCEFW has come, the fashion world has its eyes on Budapest
The Budapest Central European Fashion Week (BCEFW) has started. Between the 28th of August and the 3rd of September, the Hungarian capital is in the fashion industry’s limelight. The audience can see domestic and regional designers’ newest collections first-hand in Budapest again; moreover, interesting presentations, a pop-up store, and musical artists will also be featured in the event series’ programme. It is well worth visiting one of the largest Central European fashion events for those who are familiar with the world of fashion as well as those who have not yet had an opportunity to peek into the behind-the-scenes of showrooms and catwalks.
The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency is organising the Budapest Central European Fashion Week for the 12th time, for which, based on the successes of previous years, thousands of visitors are expected, including acknowledged experts of the international fashion world and press representatives.
On the professional programmes of BCEFW, domestic and international designers will present their 2024 spring-summer collections; altogether, 39 brands will display their works on the 2nd and the 3rd of September. Besides 24 Hungarian designers, Ukrainian, Romanian, Czech, Polish, Slovakian and Serbian creators will show their works to the audience on the weekend days in Millenáris Building G and the Millenáris National Dance Theatre. At the event, the young generation gets a more important role than ever; fashion designers applying with their degree work collections can debut in the Young Talents category, while emerging talents, who have already set out on the way of brand building, can appear in the New Generation collective show. The goal is that BCEFW can provide a springboard opportunity even for the newest designers and help them increase their visibility in the domestic and regional markets.
The Fashion Hub will open its gates for the first time at the BCEFW. The Millenáris National Dance Theatre will await the general public, especially Generation Z, with diverse programmes. Visitors can learn about unconventional topics such as street style photography, TikTok trends, and sustainable fashion; moreover, they get an insight into the world of influencers. They can find out how makeup for catwalks is made and also discover what the world of fashion shows is like from the models’ perspective. The afternoon programmes will be accompanied by a live DJ set at the venue, and on Saturday evening, you can see a performance by the popular artist, LELLE.
Throughout the whole event, the BCEFW’s partners will realise 20 side events all around the city, which provide an exciting point of connection to the fashion world. UNREALINDUSTRY is organising a pop-up store and musical programmes, and the variety of professional programmes will be boosted by the first event of the W Hotel Faces of Budapest programme series.
The region’s renowned fashion industry magazines, including the representatives of the Polish Vogue, Elle, and Twój Styl, the Czech and Ukrainian Vogue, and the Italian L’Officiel and Vogue Italia are also visiting the BCEFW. Among the guests at the Fashion Hub discussions, you can find names such as Krisztina Maróy, editor-in-chief of Glamour magazine, Kata Szegedi and Borbála Ferencz fashion designers, Lilla Lendvai stylist and recycled fashionista, Adél Keller and Zsuzsi Felfalusi-Barta fashion content creators and Patrick Domingo fashion and lifestyle photographer.
BCEFW has become a central fashion industry event in the Central European region thanks to its popularity growing year after year. In the SS24 season, the presence of regional brands alongside domestic ones and strengthening connections have become even more important aspects than before so that Hungary and Budapest can connect regional countries as a bridge. BCEFW has become the central fashion industry event in the Central European region owing to its popularity growing year by year, which contributes to Hungary becoming a determining actor in the international fashion industry and Budapest a regional centre.
In addition to events providing live participation, you can watch the catwalk shows and BCEFW Showcases on the HFDA’s official Instagram channel on the 2nd and 3rd of September.
Fashion Hub programmes will be free during the event, but some programmes require prior registration due to the limited number of places. The organisers reserve the right to change the programme.
