Kata Font Home - Hannabi
The concept of the brand Kata Font Home stems from an artistic rethinking of everyday objects and small pieces of furniture, following the design principles of minimalist aesthetics. Behind the clear, geometric forms in the foreground, functional details remain hidden, strengthening the abstract appearance of objects. The minimalist philosophy is extended to the use of materials as well; from the selection of raw materials that will last over the long term, to the surface treatment and packaging of the products, the design is environmentally friendly and sustainable.
Why did you choose Hannabi for your internship in the design START programme?
I have known the brand for a long time, they have a long history in furniture manufacturing. But this time, I was mainly interested in managing sales/marketing/social media activities and running a business. I wanted to take a peek into how a company with a longer history than ours organises these activities, and in what system they think and work. In addition, our objects are similar both in forms and philosophy, we create them along similar guidelines – including the use of natural raw materials, clear and rounded shapes, and customisability – thus, I chose them.
Did you get the knowledge and information you were looking for during the two-week internship?
In the first part of the internship, we talked a lot about the beginnings of Hannabi, its manufacturing processes and where they are now. They introduced me to writing an annual marketing plan, the sales process, and how collaboration with interior designers works, but we also discussed the situation during the pandemic and their projects from that time. The latter was especially informative for me since Kata Font Home was launched in 2020, during the Covid pandemic, so online sales are a cardinal point of our operation.
What will you be able to use in your own work, in running your business from what you have learnt?
Activities, tips, and best practices shared by Hannabi about campaign planning methods, social media activities, and sending newsletters were really useful. These are all areas that I can build on in the case of Kata Font Home as well.
Will you continue to cooperate in some form, are you thinking about a future joint product or collaboration?
I got answers to a lot of my questions during the internship, but I would like to continue the collaboration. In the second part of the internship, we were brainstorming a lot, which resulted in the idea of a product we want to realise together. We have already created possible drafts and conducted target market research and material research.
