Cultural Programmes Enliven the Budapest Select Exhibition During Milan Design Week

The Budapest Select – A VVoven View exhibition showcases the rich creativity of Hungarian design at Milan Design Week. The exhibition, organised by the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency, presents Hungary’s most excellent designers and the most spectacular industrial and fine artists to the international audience. A varied event series accompanies the showcase, enabling the audience to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary Hungarian design in a cultural context.

The Budapest Select – A VVoven View exhibition brings together 65 works by 24 Hungarian designers, weaving them into an exciting new tapestry that highlights their unique vision — bold in experimentation yet respectful of traditions. In addition to showcasing Hungary’s vibrant object culture, the Agency aimed to offer deeper cultural and contextual layers to enrich the discovery of contemporary domestic design at one of the world’s leading design events. Thus, the exhibition is accompanied by numerous side events aimed at providing visitors with a more comprehensive understanding of the diversity of Hungarian culture, helping them connect more sensitively to the designers’ sources of inspiration and interpret the philosophy behind the objects.

Between 7 and 13 April, several press events and targeted networking programmes will provide opportunities to build international professional relations and strengthen designers’ business presence. The week began with a press event, where international journalists and influencers learnt about the exhibition’s curatorial concept and the stories behind the objects from curator Barna Erdész in an exclusive context.

Afterwards, the Agency invites international media representatives, showroom partners, manufacturers, galleries, and other industry professionals to a dedicated event to meet the Hungarian creations and artists. During the event, participants will gain insight into Hungarian folk dance and contemporary music. In the second half of the week, an interactive workshop will add a special touch to the design selection, where illustrator Juli Jásdi will bring the visual world of Budapest’s Tram Line 2 to life in a collaborative creative experience.

Moreover, in connection with the Easter period, a traditional egg-painting workshop and a wine tasting in collaboration with the Hungarian Wine Marketing Agency will offer a taste of rural Hungary’s artisanal heritage and gastronomic culture. The weekend will conclude with an uninterrupted exhibition visit, offering an opportunity for in-depth object interpretation and an independent exploration of the exhibition space.
