Baby Furniture Developed in the design LAB Programme Wins The Red Dot Award
2024 marks a significant year in the history of Faktum Furniture and Máté Horváth, founder of Forms Design. Their product, Shape Baby Furniture, developed as part of the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency’s incubation programme, has won the Red Dot Design Award, the most esteemed global recognition for product design. This accolade, in addition to proving the strength of Hungarian design, also demonstrates that innovative, sustainable, and aesthetic solutions can originate in Hungary, earning a place among the international elite.
The Red Dot Design Award is the world’s most prestigious design award, aiming to seek out and acknowledge the most outstanding product design solutions globally each year. The jury, consisting of nearly 40 internationally renowned experts, evaluates the entries individually against strict criteria. Each year, thousands of entries are submitted to the Red Dot Award, considered the symbol of creative excellence and innovation. In addition to its professional value, the recognition also increases the prestige and competitiveness of the creators in the global market.
The Shape Baby Furniture collection, created within the design LAB programme, stood out among the submissions with its unique design language, transformability, and sustainable use of materials. The harmonious combination of bent plywood and delicately painted MDF elements evoke a sense of naturalness and homeliness, while its practical and timeless design ensures long-term use, even beyond the nursery. Shape Baby Furniture does not only reflect a commitment to contemporary product design but also the creative and technological innovation embodied in the collaboration of Máté Horváth and Faktum Furniture.
Throughout his more than two-decade career, the founder of Forms Design has been consistently driven by a passion for wood and a love of functionality. His furniture pieces are known for their delicate proportions, minimalistic style, and an intimate relationship with users. Additionally, the designer places a great emphasis on manufacturability and marketability. These qualities made him a great partner for Faktum, a company dedicated to crafting quality baby furniture for over 30 years, with currently almost 20 collections on the market.
The collaboration between the creators started in the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency’s design LAB programme, created by the Agency to connect Hungarian manufacturers’ professional backgrounds and the designers’ creativity. The product made in the framework of the incubation programme is an excellent example of how the fusion of traditional furniture manufacturing and contemporary design can result in not only timeless and mass-producible but also innovative and internationally outstanding product lines.
Shape Baby Furniture made its debut at the 360 Design Budapest exhibition, which also received a Red Dot Award. The exhibition presents the most outstanding creations of Central European design and visual and applied arts year after year.
This is not the first time Máté Horváth’s work has been recognised by the professional jury. His first product, the MIX Chair, won the Hungarian Product Design Award, among others. One of his previous works, the Jean clothes rack, also created in the design LAB incubation programme and produced by Árkossy Bútor, won the 2023 Big See Wood Award. This year, alongside the baby furniture, the founder of Forms Design also took home a Red Dot Award in the Product Concept category. These accolades are a testament to the world-class achievements of Hungarian design.
