Almost one hundred international journalists, distributors, and influencers participate in the Budapest Central European Fashion Week
The Budapest Central European Fashion Week displaying 2022 spring-summer collections has officially started. It awaits the wide audience interested in fashion at different Budapest venues for a whole week. Besides the catwalk shows taking place between the 16th and 17th of October in Bálna Budapest, exciting side events and a mobile pop-up store called the Budapest Central European Select enrich the fashion week’s programme. During this year’s offline BCEFW, distributors, domestic and international professionals, and potential buyers can view domestic, regional, and entrant designers’ newest creations.
One of Hungary’s most anticipated fashion events, the Budapest Central European Fashion Week (BCEFW), has started, presenting the most talented domestic – among whom some entrant – and regional designers’ 2022 spring-summer collections live again after one year. This year, one of the global logistic partners of the sector, a key actor in the most widely known fashion events of the world, DHL, also joined the programme; thus, the fashion week bears the name BCEFW delivered by DHL.
The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency, as the industry’s advocacy group, creates a platform for Hungarian and regional designers to showcase their collections by frequently organising the fashion week. For the region’s fashion industry actors, the BCEFW constitutes the number one meeting point with the international profession and the Hungarian and international wide audience interested in fashion. At the event, the brands presented on the runway can demonstrate their creativity to such distinguished representatives of the international press as Vogue Italia, Vogue Scandinavia, Vogue Ukraine, Elle Arabia, Joys Magazine, and Marie Claire Arabia, and famous influencers like Declan Chan, Natalia Sustova, and Gili Biegun will get to know the Hungarian and regional pieces firsthand. At the BCEFW, international buyers from all around the world will be represented, among them the German Mytheresa, the Italian Tessabit, the Japanese Marubeni Fashion Link, and the Russian Fashion Hub, providing excellent sales opportunities for the designers.
As the highlight of the event held between the 11th and the 17th of October, those interested can view the creations of more than 30 brands in the building of Bálna Budapest at the fashion shows. Hungarian and regional designers will showcase their newest SS22 collections, and Young Talents Programme participants will display their degree work collections at the catwalk shows. As a speciality of this year’s event, the designers’ runway shows will be broadcasted live on TikTok as well as on Facebook, and numerous TikTokers will personally broadcast the entrants’ presentations. Besides the fashion shows, seven fashion and accessory brands will exhibit at the venue, and those interested can even purchase special pieces from them.
“After our successful international appearances in Paris and Milan and the 360 Design Budapest exhibition with record attendance, now all eyes are on our fashion designers. Almost one hundred renowned international representatives are arriving in Hungary who will have the chance to get to know our capital, besides the talented contemporary brands” – highlighted Zsófia Bata-Jakab, the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency’s CEO, adding that – “This week we do everything to represent the Hungarian fashion industry’s unique values to international journalists, distributors, and our visitors. Furthermore, in the long run, our goal is to turn Budapest into a regional fashion industry centre and strengthen the country’s image.
During the almost 30 side events realised within the BCEFW’s framework, guests can visit interactive open showrooms, where designers present their newest creations personally and let visitors peek into their collections’ background. The brands are preparing discounts, prize competitions, and special surprises. Moreover, at some venues, the participants can listen to professional discussions on topics such as sustainable fashion, conscious shopping, or how our way of dressing has changed in the last century. The Budapest Central European Select pop-up store has opened in the city centre to sell Hungarian and regional designers’ creations. It awaits customers between the 11th and 19th of October on the Fashion Street. The pop-up store exhibiting 27 Hungarian and regional talents’ collections is a temporary store. After Budapest, it will provide a possibility for exhibiting in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland on different dates in the next six months, including even more regional brands.
The fashion and design programmes of the Fashion & Design Autumn will not end here; in the framework of its thematic event series, the Agency will organise the Budapest Fashion & Tech Summit international fashion industry conference in December.

About the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency
The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency was established in 2018 with the goal of providing efficient and structured support to all players in the fashion and design industry along predefined strategic pillars, namely, professional coordination, improving the availability and commercial opportunities of Hungarian products, education development and production development. In order to achieve these objectives, the agency organises national events every year, such as the Budapest Central European Fashion Week, the region's key fashion event, and the international award-winning 360 Design Budapest exhibition. It also provides opportunities for Hungarian designers to exhibit and showcase their work at professional events abroad, such as Milan Fashion Week and the Maison&Objet design fair. The agencies priorities include strategic cooperation with professional organisations, increasing exports and supporting the professional development of domestic brands through mentoring programmes.
Budapest Central European Fashion Week
The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency organises the Budapest Central European Fashion Week twice a year, which counts as the leading fashion event in the Central-European region. After the digital BCEFW in March, the event will be held physically again, where Hungarian and regional designers and the participants of the Young Talents programme will have the opportunity to showcase their newest SS22 collections live.
For Hungarian fashion industry actors, the Budapest Central European Fashion Week constitutes the number one meeting point with the international profession and the Hungarian and international wide audience interested in fashion. The brands exhibited on the runways show their creativity each season in front of buyers, the profession, and potential customers, thus gaining essential sales opportunities. In the long run, the event contributes to Budapest becoming a regional fashion industry centre, which is one of the Agency’s most important strategic goals.
