A Huge Interest in Hungarian Designers At The Paris Design Fair Maison&Objet

Maison et Objet, one of the largest international design fairs for home decor and international interior design, took place in Paris between 17-21 January 2020, where 11 Hungarian designers showcased their work and represented Hungary through the coordination and support of the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA). The Hungarian brands were placed in the „Today Signature” hall, which represented trend-setting brands focusing on unique and innovative design solutions. Thanks to a successful debut of the brands in London, the potential of Hungarian designers and their products was also noticed in Paris.

Between 17-21 January, Paris, the French capital was once again the centre of attention for design: Maison et Objet, considered as one of the three largest and most important international design fairs for home decor and international interior design. Over 100,000 visitors visited the 5-day event, were resellers, manufacturers and distributors attended the event who arrived specifically to discover new brands.

This year, the Fair celebrated itʼs 25th anniversary, and visitors were able to get to know the newest work and brands of 3,000 exhibitors. Further, they were also able to gain insight into the questions from the industry regarding the theme of the fair: (RE)GENERATION!) – the expectations of the Y and Z generations and future trends.

With the help, support and coordination of the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA) 11 Hungarian brands were able to take part in the fair, as part of an installation inspired by environmental awareness and purpose. The clear and minimalist exhibition space, focused on sustainability and the potential for recycling. The designers had previously already had an opportunity to showcase their creativity and talent, as the installation was also a success and used for the London Design Fair in 2019. The Hungarian trend-setting brands were placed in the „Today Signature” hall, which represented brands in the industry focusing on the most unique and innovative design solutions.

“We are immensely proud of the Hungarian designers, as they were able to showcase their works to the world in the „Signature Today” hall. This is proof that Hungarian brands are in the same league as worldwide brands. The positive feedback we received throughout our presence at the fair has further strengthened us in acknowledging that Hungarian brands are on the right track to global success.” - Stated Zsófia Bata-Jakab, CEO of the Agency. She also added: We received many comments on how the Hungarian products offer innovative solutions and high quality, while simultaneously outperforming mass products in terms of sustainability. "These views were also reflected in the number of business offers: each brand received at least one, but more so, several, serious inquiries which started a series of reseller and manufacturer negotiations." reported Zsófia Bata-Jakab.

The Hungarian brands were showcased in Paris via the HFDA, with the international promotion of Hungarian design brands under one, strong, Budapest-focused umbrella brand: Budapest Select. The main aim of the Budapest Select brand is for talented Hungarian designers to gain even more attention during international appearances - through unified communication - while simultaneously also maintaining their own branding attributes. Thanks to the umbrella brand, the designers are able to receive far more intensive and effective exposure opportunities, than if they were to appear alone. Further, the umbrella brand contributes to the continual strengthening of the country's and capital's reputation, making Budapest a sustainable fashion and design hub for the Central European region.
