360 Design Budapest Exhibition Celebrates Its 5th Anniversary

In the last few years, October has marked the month of design – the 360 Design Budapest exhibition has showcased the best of domestic and regional object design across its diverse venues. The event has been through significant changes since its 2020 debut: this year, it is returning with a new concept as the central exhibition of the Budapest Design Week, organised by the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA).

The first 360 Design Budapest opened its doors in the autumn of 2020, online and offline, as part of Budapest Design Week in Bálna Budapest. Since then, the exhibition has become not only a central player in contemporary product design but also a source of inspiration for creative industry professionals and those interested in design, as well as a determining annual event of the domestic and international design scene. In recent years, hundreds of Hungarian and international designers, along with young talents, have had the opportunity to present their works, and the number of visitors has grown dynamically year by year, reaching several thousand.

Since its creation, 360 Design Budapest has been striving to showcase a unique fusion of contemporary design and cultural heritage to the audience. The program series has become a meeting point for the creative industry as well as a favourite autumn program for the public. The exhibitions and side events familiarise the visitors with the displayed objects and the stories and traditions behind the design processes. The experience-based event has always aimed to connect contemporary design with the values of the past, transmitting them in a modern form.

The historical buildings and spaces of Budapest hosting the exhibition always provide a special background for the event. Visitors could discover the best of contemporary design at iconic city locations, such as the Adria Palace and the historic spaces of Nyugati Railway Station. Thus, the event offered a lasting experience for those interested in product design and those wishing to explore Budapest's architectural beauty and cultural richness.

In the past five years, 360 Design Budapest has brought many renowned international and Hungarian designers to the capital, who have contributed to strengthening Budapest's reputation in the international design world with their works. Year by year, the exhibition presented how global trends can meet local traditions while emphasising the importance of sustainability, innovation, and cultural diversity. The event has expanded with several professional partners, including international design organisations, whose contributions have helped to spread the word about Hungarian talent even more widely.

The success of 360 Design Budapest in the last five years lies in its unique way of connecting contemporary product design with cultural values, showcasing that design is not only about aesthetics but respect for traditions and putting them in a modern context. In the future, the event will continue striving to become a key platform of creative industry innovation and presenting the Hungarian cultural heritage.

By now, 360 Design Budapest has evolved into a design and applied arts exhibition that showcases the latest products, creations, and spirit of contemporary artists from the Central European region within an art historical context. In the spirit of a rich and diverse historical, social, and cultural background, it opens a door, provides visibility, and creates opportunities for internationalisation for designers and artists from Hungary and the neighbouring countries. The contemporary and experience-based exhibition presents the cultural heritage of Budapest and its creative future in the light of design.

For its fifth anniversary, 360 Design Budapest offers a memorable jubilee program featuring exclusive presentations, guided tours, workshops, and roundtable discussions with renowned representatives of the design world. Those interested in design can select from more than 120 colourful programmes in the capital, Sopron and Pécs.

Besides, they provide Hungarian creators opportunities for participation and debuting at international professional events such as the Milano Fashion Week. Strategic cooperation with professional organisations, increasing exports, and supporting Hungarian brands’ professional development with mentoring programmes are among their accentuated goals.
